KATE DORROUGH 'The Lyrical River', Installation. BACKGROUND The Mighty Manning River, acrylic on linen, 169 x 214 cm. FOREGROUND Effigy of a river, concrete, ceramic shards, shells and acrylic, various sizes
Kate Dorrough's 'The Lyrical River' will be on display at the Manning Regional Art Gallery in Taree from Thursday 25 July until Sunday 1 September 2019. The exhibition responds to the Manning River and the importance of the water system, both to its community and as a cultural symbol. 'The Lyrical River' expands across four rooms and a corridor within the original building of the Manning Regional Art Gallery featuring paintings, fabric works and symbolic three-dimensional ceramic and concrete sculptures. Objects are placed in dialogue with a video sequence with sound, a backdrop to hanging sculptures as props which cast shadows, creating an overall conversation between different mediums, forms and ideas.
