Emma Walker in the Salon des Refuses
Emma Walker, Estuary, 2015, oil and mixed media on board, 150 x 180 cm
Congratulations to Emma Walker for being selected as a finalist in this year’s Salon des Refuses exhibition.
Walker’s exquisite work, Estuary, expresses the artist’s ongoing engagement with the patterns and rhythms that recur in nature. From cellular structures and microscopic insect trails to clouds and nebulae, the painting evokes the micro and the macro in a way the prompts the viewer’s eye to quietly meander across the abstract forms.
Established in 1992, the prestigious Salon des Refuses is the 'alternative' selection from hundreds of entries to the Archibald and Wynne Prizes. The criteria for works selected are quality, diversity, humour and experimentation, thematically spanning contemporary art practices, different approaches to portraiture and artist's responses to the landscape.
Walker’s painting, along with the other selected artists’ works, will be on display from 18 July to 13 September at the S. H. Ervin Gallery, Sydney.
