The geology of New Mexico is littered with precious gemstones and diverse & rare rocks. Many of these different stones are recognised as having sacred or healing properties and were much prized by indigenous peoples. Rose & smokey quartz, turquoise and natural obsidian are scattered across the desert and buried deep beneath the sand. Chippings, flints and flakes and stone tools from the mountain ranges and mesas litter the land with evidence of value & meaning. Precious and semi precious gemstones, crystals and rocks are still mined from all deserts of the world. Mostly myth and meaning is derived from ancient indigenous sources but there is now growing scientific evidence of these stones, their powerful properties and heavenly energies. New Mexico is known as the ‘Land of Enchantment'.
