I was surprised to discover that Salvador Dali’s “The Persistence of Memory” from 1931 which introduced his melting clock was actually quite a small painting, measuring just 9.5 x 13 inches it packs quite a punch.
Dali wrote in his book “The Conquest of the Irrational”, “My whole ambition in the pictorial domain is to materialise the images of my concrete irrationality with the most imperialist fury of precision.” It’s this fury of precision and extraordinary imagery that continues to entice viewers into his strange and beguiling world.
In this small painting I’ve included a peeled apple. Painting a peeled apple often denoted artistic virtuosity as it needed to be painted in a single sitting. Perhaps this is my quiet offering to the technical virtuosity of Dali. The peeled apple is also a symbol of patience which is required in bundle loads for a realist painter.
