The plinth of this work began life as a maquette for work being exhibited at Rookwood Cemetery. When I visited Rookwood on a hot February day the atmosphere reminded me of TS Eliot’s Waste Land with the cicadas chirping and the dry harsh sun beating down on the hard stone monuments. Belinda’s bird sits atop the pedestal, perpetually on the lookout, perhaps a harbinger of troubled times ahead.
