Congratulations to Belinda Fox who has been announced as a finalist in the Paul Guest Drawing Prize for her beautiful work ‘Thread the needle’.
Belinda’s statement for this work reads:
Dictionary meaning - Thread the needle – to find harmony or strike a balance between conflicting forces.
'Thread the needle' is based on a current photo from my Internet news feed. These types of images are ubiquitous; we have seen them before, yet I am encouraging us to distil nuance from the dehumanisation of screen-filtered news. To stop and pay attention to the real-life tragedy that is taking place. Using layers of collage and drawing, a tapestry of debris and chaos encloses around the narrow pathway forwards. - Belinda Fox 2024
The Paul Guest Drawing Prize is an award and exhibition held biennially that highlights contemporary drawing practice in Australia. The exhibition of finalists will be on display at Bendigo Art Gallery until 27 January 2025.
