Scott Duncan featured in 'Beyond the Box'

Manly Art Gallery & Museum

Scott Duncan is currently featured in an exciting group exhibition ‘Beyond the Box’ at Manly Art Gallery & Museum. Alongside Duncan, the show includes artistsGabrielle Bates, Patrizia Biondi, Tracey Clement, David Manley, Sean Rafferty with the exhibition exploring ways in which contemporary artists use cardboard in new and unique ways to engage with their audiences and bring to fruition conceptual ideas in their work.

“Traditionally, the cardboard box is thought of as a vessel or container, which is associated with the packaging of commercial goods, and their distribution in the age of global markets. What happens when the cardboard box becomes a vessel for ideas or concepts?”

A chef by trade, Duncan infuses these techniques into his art practice where clay is layered and moulded like shortcrust pastry, taking on forms resembling materials such as congregated cardboard, chewing gum and fruit, mischievously pulling apart the traditional notions of ceramics.

The exhibition is now open and continues until 30 November.
