Nicola Moss selected for the Salon des Refusés 2026

S.H Ervin Gallery

We are so excited to share that Nicola Moss has been selected for the Salon des Refusés 2026, for her beautiful work ‘Redleaf — City and Nature’.

A vista I have enjoyed on many walks to Woollahra Gallery; looking over Blackburn Gardens and on towards the Redleaf Pool. This pocket of greenspace forms a cocoon, vanquishing street noise and the city bustle. City and Nature is a place where town planning, heritage and culture, mixes with maintenance regimes, leisure and a sense of tranquility. As we adapt to increasing temperatures, I am thinking about the role plants contribute to create liveable city environments. I believe sustainable green spaces are vital for our well-being, both physical and mental. — Nicola Moss 2026

Each year the panel of judges is invited to go behind the scenes of the judging process for the Archibald Prize and Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, to select from the many hundreds of works entered in both prizes but not chosen for the official award exhibition.

The Salon des Refusés exhibition at the S.H. Ervin Gallery has established an excellent reputation that rivals the selections in the ‘official’ exhibition, with works selected for quality, diversity, humour and experimentation, and which examine contemporary art practices, different approaches to portraiture and responses to the landscape.

The exhibition opens at S.H Ervin Gallery on 9 May.
