Peter Simpson selected as a finalist for The King's School Art Prize

The King's School

Sydney based artist Peter Simpson has been selected as a finalist in the prestigous King's School Art Prize for his beautiful work Hush (Towards Rose Bay).

“Hush: to become or be silent, quiet or still”. This painting “Hush (Towards Rose Bay)” is both a return to earlier paintings and an advance on those pictures. The work was begun some time ago and lay dormant until recently when it caught my attention as I started to play with the idea of being deliberately more tonal in my intention as I painted. This limiting of parameters has allowed these new paintings to exert themselves in ways that have been productive and satisfying.  Like all my work “Hush (Towards Rose Bay)” began as a response to a particular place. The journey from there to the sought after tranquillity I hope the painting conveys is both an end in itself and the result of finding that quiet stillness in the very process of painting. — Peter Simpson, Artist Statement
