Kate Dorrough has been selected as a finalist in the Gosford Art Prize for her brilliant textile work 'Coexistence and Repair of an Ancient Landscape'.
Approaching textile as a painting, collaged and constructed resourced textiles evoke an abstracted representation of the land. Hand stitching with cotton thread becomes a drawn mark transversing the textile surface reminiscent of ancient tracks. Echoing a domestic sense of care; to repair, mend and making do with what is at hand. Remnant textiles sourced from the home suggest care needed to maintain the land with an increasing awareness of regenerative framing practices and land husbandry. A palimpsest of mark making speaks of an inherent language of accumulated knowledge and environmental stewardship of coexistence, to maintain and work with the land. — Kate Dorrough, Artist Statement 2026
The Gosford Art Prize started as a community-driven project in 1970 and has grown to become one of the highlights of the Gosford Regional Gallery's exhibition calendar and an important part of the cultural landscape of the Central Coast. The 2026 iteration is the 27th time the prize will be presented at gallery.
The exhibition of finalists will be on display from 26 September to 22 November 2026.
