Naomi Hobson has been announced as a finalist in the prestigious National Works on Paper Prize for her work Girlfriends which is part of her acclaimed series 'Adolescent Wonderland'.
'Adolescent Wonderland' is a series of photographs that tell the real-life stories of young Aboriginal people in remote Australia. The title of this series was inspired by the classic children’s novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Themes of youth, playfulness and childhood memories are evident in Hobson’s photographs. The series has been exhibited at the prestigious Horniman Museum in London in 2023, the National Portrait Gallery as part of Portrait 23, as well as a major exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia in 2021 and in Photo Australia's International Festival of Photography in 2022. It has also been acquired by major museum collections such as the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Art Gallery of South Australia and the National Gallery of Victoria.
The National Works on Paper prize attracts leading contemporary artists from across Australia working in the fields of drawing, printmaking, digital prints and paper sculpture.
