Robyn Sweaney wins second prize in The Doyles Art Award

Mudgeeraba

Robyn Sweaney has won second prize in The Doyles Art Award in the landscape category.

The Doyles Art Award is an annual Australian representational fine art award and exhibition.  Categories include Landscape, Still Life, Figurative, All Ability and Juniors. The main category is Landscape in honour of our namesake, d'Arcy Doyle.

Sweaney's work 'AR DEE' depicts a home representative of type of housing built after the second world war during a period of strong tourism and residential growth in the seaside suburb of Tugun on the Gold Coast.

The modernist influenced design style common during this period, suited a beach houses simple and practical needs, and because it was owner built it also displays an uniqueness due to the owners inventiveness, budget restraints and need for low maintenance. AR Dee, named after the original owners name, is the only fibro house from this era listed on the Gold Coast Councils Heritage Register. The current owner, a local architect, bought the house from the original owners with the intention to preserve it and to encourage others to do the same. - Robyn Sweaney 2024
