S.H. Ervin Gallery

Jo Bertini's stunning portrait of her renowned artist mother Annie, is currently on display at S.H Ervin Gallery in their 'Portia Geach at 60' exhibition.

Celebrating 60 years of this acclaimed and important art prize, 'Portia Geach at 60' features past winning works as well as a selection of the best in previous finalists.

Bertini's work 'Annie - Remember me if I forget' celebrates the life of her extraordinary mother, a highly acclaimed sculptor and member of the arts community who suffered from dementia. The portrait was a finalist in the prize in 2021, with John McDonald from the Sydney Morning Herald noting -

Bertini’s statement describes the discussions about art she still manages to have with her mother, which seem more precious because they are moments of lucidity snatched from the encroaching fog. There’s a desperate sadness in Anne’s face, but the painting is radiant, the warmth of the palette reflecting a daughter’s love for her mum. There’s nothing else in the exhibition that’s so heartfelt, so genuinely touching. - John McDonald, Sydney Morning Herald 2021.

Not to be missed, the exhibition continues at S.H Ervin Gallery until 20 October.
