Gallery Digital Marketing & Design Coordinator / Artist Liaison

Arthouse Gallery, a leading Sydney contemporary art gallery established by Director Ali Yeldham in 1994, is dedicated to showcasing the work of emerging and established Australian and First Nations artists at the forefront of contemporary art and culture. Committed to developing the practices of our represented artists, we aim to create meaningful connections between their work and audiences through exhibitions, publications, and strategic partnerships.

 

Arthouse Gallery is looking for a Gallery Marketing & Design Coordinator / Artist Liaison to join our Sydney gallery. The ideal candidate will have 2- 5 years of related industry experience and impeccable communications skills. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, dynamic and charismatic with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment within a small team. This role will play a crucial part in promoting our gallery, fostering relationships with artists, clients and curators and driving engagement with existing and new audiences. Professionalism and exemplary communication skills are essential.

 

POSITION

 

The Gallery Marketing & Design Coordinator / Artist Liaison is a key role within our organisation and is responsible for the marketing strategy, design and operational activities of Arthouse Gallery. This role involves managing artist schedules for exhibitions, designing catalogues, database management and creating our digital, social and print marketing campaigns. This role requires a highly organised, detail-orientated and creative individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be passionate about art and committed to contributing to the gallery's success.


Essential:
• Tertiary education in Arts, Arts Administration, Art History, or a related field with at least 2 years of experience in the visual arts industry
• Strong graphic design skills, including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite - Photoshop, Bridge, InDesign and Illustrator.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace.
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience with Sketch Up and Art logic Database Desired.
• Experience in digital marketing and social media platforms.
• Photography and Image editing skills.
• Excellent organisational and time/ project management and planning skills.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Methodical file management.
• Experience in a retail environment and excellent customer service skills.
• Knowledge of the art world and contemporary art trends.
• Great team player and the ability to work autonomously.
• Agility to work in a fast-paced environment in a small team.
• Quick learner.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Exhibition Coordination/ Artist Liaison


• Create and manage exhibition calendars, timelines, and schedules for artists, including required assets (artwork photography, statements, CVs, artwork delivery).
• Collaborate on exhibition design and create layout concepts (SketchUp)
• Facilitating exhibition consignment notes with the artists
• Communicate and keep track of deadlines for artists
• Coordinate group exhibitions (up to 4 per year)
• Build strong relationships with artists, regular communication on the phone and via email
• Provide artists with guidance and support throughout the exhibition process


Design/ Marketing


• Coordinate all marketing campaigns from brief to delivery. Conceptualising, ideating and executing integrated social and email campaigns
• Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies, working with the gallery team to increase gallery visibility and attract new visitors and audiences.
• Create visually appealing designs for exhibition catalogues, advertising, invitations and gallery branding. Digital and Print (InDesign & Google Slides)
• Create different content for various channels including social media, website, press, EDMs, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn etc.
• Execute marketing copywriting and general communications to deliver the right messages at the right times to customers in a simple and engaging way, ensuring content is aligned with our Galleries visual identity and, aligned with upcoming events and campaigns.
• Creation of digital assets including GIFs, short videos and email signatures.
• Work in collaboration with our sales colleagues to develop creative campaigns and deliver campaign activities promptly. Assist with cross-functional communications and collaborate with the wider team on any upcoming events and promotional campaigns
• Manage the production of printed catalogues and other hard-copy marketing material
• Produce and design monthly gallery newsletters
• Manage collector preview exhibition campaign emails
• Creating Google Workplace surveys to register artists/ exhibition interest
• Manage, collate, and analyse data for all marketing campaigns and events.
• Social Media – Strategy and implementation. Instagram, Facebook, LinkdIn - Produce quarterly engagement and reporting with key metric analysis.
• Daily posts and updates for exhibitions, prizes and news.
• Support relationships with key influencers, and build relationships with key media contacts.

 

Database Management (ArtLogic)

 

• Import client data and exhibition artworks using artist consignment notes and mailing lists.
• Maintain artist interest lists.
• Creating exhibition and client private views.


Photography


• Photograph artwork to a professional standard. (Desired)
• Exhibition installation documentation photographs.
• Edit, grade and revise images. (Adobe Bridge & Photoshop)
• File management.

 

Website Management


• Maintain and update the gallery website (News, Content, CV, Bios) and launch exhibitions.
• Regularly update the 'curated stockroom’ on the website to reflect current available artworks.

 

Writing


• Exemplary written skills are desired for artist/ exhibition blurbs, press releases and gallery newsletters.
• Write additional content for social media and email campaigns.
• Assist in planning and coordination of artist essays with external writers.

 

Sales


• Engage with gallery visitors and share information regarding the artworks (shared)
• Sell artwork (support role to Sales team)
• Prompt responses to artwork/artist enquiries (shared)
• Design client proposals
• Create client visualisations (mock-ups)

Events


• Assist with coordination and management of logistics and gallery dinners and events
• Assist the Gallery Director, Manager, and Sales Associate to manage guest lists, invites, and RSVPs, seating charts.
• Participate in gallery openings, art fairs and events as required

 

Additional


• Assist in the curation of gallery common space and maintain the presentation of gallery space
• Assist the team with the presentation of artwork for clients including holding and lifting artworks.
• Attend selected museums, events and art fairs as a gallery representative and cultivate strong relationships with clients and relevant personnel.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

 

Qualifications and Experience


• Minimum 2 years’ experience in Marketing and Design with experience in an arts based or creative organisation, visual arts industry or similar context preferred.
• You have demonstrated experience developing and executing successful marketing strategies and promotional campaigns in Digital and print to engage diverse audiences.
• Experience planning and executing social media content across a range of channels.
• You are digitally savvy, creative and highly skilled in creative content writing and are passionate about finding new ways to reach, engage and inspire our community.
• You are an enthusiastic team player, receptive to team collaboration, and feedback. You’re always open to new ideas, and eager to learn to expand your skillsets. You love finding solutions to challenges and you’re not afraid to jump on the tools to bring ideas to life.
• You are highly organised, detailed, results-driven, and are able to meet task due dates.
• You have exemplary written and spoken presentation and communication skills, with an eye for detail.
• You have demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with artists and clients.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise, work efficiently to deadlines and manage direct reports.
• You love Social Media and enjoy creating content in line with trends. You have experience with Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and LinkedIn,
• You have demonstrated experience in design and database/CRM management and email marketing platforms, such as WordPress, MailChimp, Campaign, Artlogic, HubSpot, or similar. Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Suite - Photoshop, Bridge, InDesign and Illustrator and Sketchup
• Flexibility to undertake out-of-hours work if required
• You show care for those you interact with, you care deeply about the quality of your work and you take responsibility and accountability for your work with respect for others.
• Tertiary education in Arts, Arts Administration, Arts Management, Art History, Marketing or equivalent field prefer
