We are thrilled to share that Kate Dorrough's incredible ceramic The river's ancient song has been acquired by the Art Gallery of Ballarat as part of their permanent collection.
Dorrough's work explores landscape as metaphor, with its inland river systems a vital source of survival and bestowal of fertility. Through this ceramic form she considers the cyclicality of renewal and destruction that defines the land, with her painterly gestural marks evoking totemic symbols of this enduring landscape.
The work is currently on display in The Art Gallery of Ballarat's exhibition 'Country' which features works from the public collection that depict representations of landscape. Artists such as Nganampa Manta, Tom Roberts, John Olsen, Arthur Boyd, Jeffrey Smart and Merric Boyd are on display alongside Dorrough's work.
