"Why us?” It’s the question that greets many prospective clients who arrive at the chic Sydney office of Dylan Farrell Design, tucked away in a charming Paddington townhouse. “I’m not fishing for compliments,” explains Farrell, who launched his namesake firm in 2016 alongside wife and business partner Nicolette. “But we want to find out what it is about us that appeals to them. And it helps establish a starting point that we can always come back to if things start getting confusing.”
The pair was based in New York City before moving to Sydney in 2009. In the six years since they founded their own company, Dylan and Nicolette have quickly carved out a niche in the market, thanks in part to their international perspective.
“We started working in townhouses on the Upper West Side, which are all very polished,” says Nicolette. “And bringing that sense of classicism and understanding of detailing is part of our success here; that sprinkling of American polish excites people. But Australia has influenced our approach, too.”
